March 28, 2025 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE – The Washington women's tennis team (13-2, 6-1 Big Ten) earned its fourth straight win Friday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over No. 63 Purdue.
The Huskies clinched the doubles point with wins on the top two courts, first by Sophie Luescher and Erika Matsuda on court two by a 6-2 margin.
No. 49 Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs took down Purdue's Milic and Gallardo, 6-3 to enter singles up 1-0.
Sophie Luescher dropped her first singles match of the season (11-1), falling at No. 5 to the Boilermakers' Gencer, 0-6, 2-6.
No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles all got the job done for Washington, none of them giving up more than two games to Purdue's singles players.
Alexia Jacobs won her fifth straight singles match on three, defeating Purdue's Gutierrez, 6-2, 6-2.
Matsuda and McKenna Koenig racked up wins of their own, with Koenig clinching the match on court 4.
"Regardless of whether I won or lost points, I was able to consistently play my tennis with confidence throughout the match," Matsuda said.
The Huskies will face Indiana on Sunday, March 30 at noon, either in Nordstrom Tennis Center or outside at the Quillian Tennis Stadium if weather permits.
