
Huskies Come Up Short In Doubleheader

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The No. 17 Beach Dawgs battled through a tough doubleheader Sunday at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex, falling just short in a pair of 2-3 decisions against Santa Clara and No. 14 Grand Canyon.
In the opening match against Santa Clara, Washington came out strong with Teila Allen and Jade Sadeiko delivering a straight-set victory on court one, 21-14, 23-21. The Beach Dawgs added another win on court five, where Hannah Doyle and Karolina Majernikova controlled the match, taking a 21-19, 21-16 victory.
Santa Clara claimed the remaining three courts, all in tight battles. On court three, Katarina Pantovic and Niki Egan fought hard but fell 21-17, 21-19. Sarah Wilcock and Emma Hohenauer pushed their match to the limit on court four before dropping a close 21-18, 23-21 result. The deciding point came down to court two, where Lauren Wilcock and Brooke Balue took the first set but couldn't hold on, falling 14-21, 21-17, 16-14.
Later in the day, the Dawgs faced off against 14th-ranked Grand Canyon in another nail-biter. Allen and Sadeiko remained dominant on court one, powering through with a 21-18, 21-11 win. Lauren Wilcock and Ella Wimmer added a gritty victory on court three, bouncing back after dropping the first set to win 18-21, 21-19, 15-12.
Grand Canyon picked up the wins it needed on courts four, five and two. Hohenauer and Sarah Wilcock fell 21-14, 21-18 on court four, while Doyle and Alina Urzua came up just short on court five, 21-17, 21-19. Pantovic and Egan fought valiantly once again on court two but dropped a tight 23-21, 21-16 decision.
