Husky Trio Grab Big Ten Player Of The Week Honors
October 07, 2025 | Women's Soccer
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten announced its Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, with Washington nearly pulling off a full sweep, garnering three of the four nods for the eighth matchweek of 2025.
Jadyn Holdenried was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Maya Loudd reeled in Defensive Player of the Week honors. Maylen Montoya rounded out UW's selections, garnering Freshman of the Week plaudits.
Washington is the first school to have three or more players earn a Big Ten weekly award in a single week since Wisconsin had three players recognized in 2023.
The trifecta of weekly laurels comes on the heels of Washington's dominating upset of No. 4 UCLA, handing the Bruins a 1-0 loss at Husky Soccer Stadium Saturday to leapfrog into the top position in the Big Ten table.
The win snapped a 10-match draught against the Bruins, giving UW its first win over UCLA since 2015. It was also the Huskies' highest-ranked win since 2017, giving the Dawgs a victory over a top-5 opponent in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history after topping No. 5 Michigan State in 2024.
Holdenried provided the offensive spark for the Huskies, curling a long distance strike into the upper 90 in the 19th minute for the lone goal fo the night. It was Holdenried's team-high sixth of the season, moving into a tie for third in the B1G in points with 15. Holdenried has secured four match-winning goals in 2015, tied for the second most in the nation.
However, much of the story of the night was the ferocious and swarming effort put forth by the Washington defense. With Loudd and Montoya locking down either wing from both outside back positions, the Dawgs became the first team to hold the mighty Bruin attack without a first half shot since 2018.
In the second half, with UCLA dictating a majority of possession and throwing numbers forward in search of the tying goal, the Husky D was unrelenting. In the end the Bruins were only able to muster five shots, good for a season-low and just the second match without double digit shot attempts in 2025.
Five different Washington players have now earned Big Ten weekly honors, with Alex Buck being named Offensive Player of the Week and Kolo Suliafu garnering Defensive Player of the Week plaudits after the Huskies' road win at then-No. 15 USC.
