Huskies Deliver Solid Pace-Setter In Chicago
October 03, 2025 | Cross Country
CHICAGO – Washington's cross country teams both got up to speed for the first time this fall at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, as the Husky women's team finished fourth today and the men's team placed eighth at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course. Four different Huskies finished in the top-20 individually.
This was the first test for the Huskies since returning from their fall training block. The 11th-ranked women scored 141 points for fourth, as 2nd-ranked NC State took the victory. Despite holding out a couple key pieces, the women finished ahead of multiple ranked teams including No. 7 Providence, No. 21 Wisconsin, No. 29 Minnesota, and No. 30 Boston College.
The top-three UW women all finished within two seconds of each other. Maeve Stiles led the way in 12th-place in 20:01, then Mia Cochran crossed in 14th-place in 20:02, and Chloe Foerster was 15th in 20:03.
Senior Sam Tran was the No. 4 woman, finishing 48th overall in 20:43, then Josephine Welin, an Illinois native, capped the scoring in 58th-place in 20:53. Also finishing today were Ella Borsheim in 100th overall and Brianna McInnis in 110th-place.
The Husky men's squad, ranked 24th coming in, finished eighth today while holding out a few key returners. But newcomer Reuben Reina was ready to roll, as he led the Dawgs in his debut, placing 20th overall in 23:58 for the 8,000-meter course. Jamar Distel finished 37th and Isaac Briggs was 39th, followed by redshirt freshman Parker Mong in 44th-place. Cruize Corvin capped the scoring in 52nd-place and Thom Diamond was the No. 6 Dawg in 68th.
It was the first time finishing as a top-five point scorer in cross country for Briggs, Mong, and Corvin.
The men finished with 192 points for eighth overall, as seventh-ranked Wisconsin got the win with 71.
Washington will be back in the Midwest in exactly two weeks when it returns to the annual Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, on Oct. 17.
