Huskies Tripped Up By Trojans
October 26, 2025 | Volleyball
LOS ANGELES – Washington Volleyball took a brief trip down to L.A. and came up short against 22nd-ranked USC inside the Galen Center. By some measures, the Huskies were outplaying the Trojans through three sets, but found themselves down two sets to one at that point, and USC had full control of the fourth set to complete at 25-20, 27-25, 21-25, 25-15 win.
Washington lost its third-straight match, all coming against top-25 opponents, to fall to 9-11 on the year and 4-6 in conference play.
The Huskies had a pair of set points in the second set that could have evened the match up at a set apiece, but USC saved them and took the set in extra points for a 2-0 lead. After the Huskies stayed alive with a third set win, Washington was outhitting USC, .234 to .183, through three sets. But the Dawgs hit just .075 in the fourth set as the comeback attempt lost steam.
Overall, the Huskies finished with more blocks (10.0 to 7.0) and digs (74-73) which often translates to a win, but USC had a bid edge in total kills, 60 to 47, and led 7-3 in aces.
Freshman Simona Mateska led the Huskies in kills for the third match in a row, with 13 hitting .379, to go with a career-high 18 digs for a double-double. Kierstyn Barton and Alexa Markley had 11 kills each and also had double-figure digs for their own double-doubles.
Junior Elise Hani in her second straight start in place of an injured Julia Hunt had seven kills and five blocks. Katy Wessels had five blocks with four kills, and Zoria Heard had 15 digs. Sophomore Alexis Haury had 38 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Ava Jo Berry had a pair of aces and a pair of digs.
Up Next: The Huskies have another crucial home-and-L.A. sequence next week. They host Oregon on Halloween night at 8 p.m. on Friday, then go back to Los Angeles again to meet UCLA on Sunday, Nov. 2.
