Women’s Team Finishes 20th At NCAAs
June 08, 2024 | Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. – With the 14.5 team points all scored in the pole vault, the Husky women's track squad wound up 20th in the final standings as the NCAA Outdoor Championships came to a close today at Hayward Field. Sophie O'Sullivan was looking to push the Huskies farther up the board but despite a strong effort she was unable to score in the 1,500-meters final.
O'Sullivan was the last Husky in action today, in the second final of the day on the track. Despite missing a couple months of competition from her spring season, and not racing outdoors until the Pac-12 Championships, O'Sullivan reached the 1,500m final for the second year in a row.
The race pace was tactical for the first couple laps, and O'Sullivan stayed out of trouble in the back. Going into the bell lap as things turned into a full 400-meter sprint, O'Sullivan made a move wide to try and get into the front of the chase pack into about sixth-place, but once there she couldn't find another gear and she gave up the spots she had gained and wound up 12th overall in a time of 4:13.39. Maia Ramsden of Harvard won in 4:06.62.
Washington's 14.5 team points all came from its 3-4-5 finish in the pole vault on Thursday. It's the most team points for UW on the women's side since 2012. The Huskies earned a top-25 finish for the fourth time in the past five years at NCAA Outdoors.
