
Huskies Open Series With 8-3 Win

EUGENE, Ore. – No. 9 Washington opened its Top 25 series at No. 22 Oregon with an 8-3 win on Friday night at Jane Sanders Stadium. The Huskies improve to 26-5 and 10-3 in Pac-12 play.
Ruby Meylan got the start in the circle, tossing 3.2 innings with three strikeouts and three runs allowed. Sidne Peters (6-0) came on in relief and picked up her sixth win of the season. She allowed two hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
After two scoreless innings, the Huskies' bats came alive. Sydney Stewart led off the third with her fifth home run. A couple of quick outs brought up Avery Hobson who drew a full count walk. Three straight hits from Rylee Holtorf, Alana Johnson and Jillian Celis plated two more runs. Olivia Johnson sent a three-run homer over the left field wall to extend the Washington lead to six.
Oregon cut the Washington lead in half, plating three runs in the fourth.
The Huskies responded right back on an O. Johnson single, her fourth RBI of the night, to drive in Holtorf to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
Holtorf brought in the third home run in four games in the seventh to add an insurance run for the Huskies.
It is the sixth time this season the Huskies have hit three or more home runs in a game and the 14th time with 10 or more hits.
Washington and Oregon square off in game two tomorrow (Saturday) night. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and airing on Pac-12 Network.
