SEATTLE – The Washington baseball team was unable to build off of Friday night's momentum on Saturday, dropping game two of its series with UCLA 13-4 at Husky Ballpark.
Calvin Kirchoff took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 4.1 innings.
The Bruins got on the board right away, tagging Kirchoff for a two-run double off of Mulivai Velu's bat to take a lead they would never surrender.
Three pitches into the home half of the inning, the Huskies had the lead halved as
Aiva Arquette ripped the first pitch for a double down the right line before scoring on back-to-back wild pitches.
However, UCLA responded with a solo home run in the second to regain the two-run advantage. The Bruins added a two-run double in the fifth before blowing the game open with a seven-run sixth, making it 12-1.
Cam Clayton brought two runs home with a single to left in the home half of the sixth to cut into the deficit but UCLA answered with another solo homer in the eighth.
AJ Guerrero sent a leadoff bomb 439 feet to left and
Sam DeCarlo added a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth, but it was too little, too late.
The loss sets up a rubber match with the Bruins for Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT. The game will be available for streaming through Washington Live Stream 2.
