Boyd, Huskies Both Finish Runner-Up In Kaua'i

LIHUE, Hawai'i – Camille Boyd shot in the 60s for the fifth round in a row to finish second, and the Washington women's posted the third-lowest, three-round score in program history, in terms of par, with a 17-under 847, to finish in a tie for second as a team Tuesday, as play wrapped up at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
Boyd, a senior who won the Juli Inkster Invitational earlier this month in her most recent event with scores of 68 and 69 (the third round was rained out), finished the three-day tournament at the Ocean Course at Hokuala with a 13-under total of 203. Tuesday, she carded a 3-under 69 after having shot 67 in each of the first two rounds.
Her 13-under, three-round total was one shy of her own school record, set two seasons ago when she finished 14-under at the 2022 Juli Inkster.
Washington's team score of 847, 17 under par, was the third lowest score to par in program history. The Huskies had a shot at the record of 24-under, set in 2011, and on Tuesday fell just one stroke shy of their second-best score, an 18-under finish at the 2015 Bay Area Invitational.
After opening her round with a par and a bogey on the first two holes, Boyd caught her stride, making birdies on three of her next six to finish the front nine at 2-under for the day. She had two birdies and one bogey on the back nine. Boyd finished one stroke behind the tournament's medalist, Arizona State's Ashley Menne, who also carded a 3-under 69 on Tuesday.
"Of course, we can always do better, but overall it was a good week," said UW head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "Camille had a bunch of good looks right at the end and just couldn't get anything to drop for her, but I'm really super proud of her play this week.
"Like I've said a couple times were really starting to come into our own," Mulflur added, "and we know we we've got some things to clean up, but they keep doing that a little bit better each week. We'll just keep moving forward and doing a little bit better each week.
Fellow senior Stefanie Deng shot even-par 72 on Tuesday and finished 2-under for the tournament, tying her for 12th place. Carmen Lim posted a 2-under 70 in round three, leaving her 1-under overall, good for a tie for 19th place.
Jamie Hsieh turned in a 2-over 74 on Tuesday and was 3-over (tied for 30nd) for the week, while freshman Mads Smith, who entered the third round even through 36 holes, was 2-over on Tuesday, tying her for 26th.
Playing as an individual, UW's Kennedy Knox finished her round Tuesday 2-over, putting her 5-over for the 54 holes, tying her for 44th. Teammate Adithi Anand, also playing individually, was one stroke behind at 6-over overall, after a 1-under 71 on Tuesday.
It was a solid three days of play for the Huskies, many of whom produced the best scores of the season. Lim's second-round 69 was the lowest of her career, and she followed that with a 70 today.
Smith's pair of 72s were her second and third-lowest rounds of the season, while Anand's 71 today was a collegiate low. All three of Knox's rounds in Kaua'i were lower than she'd shot so far in 2023-24.
Washington's final event of the spring prior to the Pac-12 Championships is next, April 8-10 at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif.
