TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 7 Washington opened the series at No. 22 Arizona with a 13-2 six inning win over the Wildcats on Friday night. The Huskies improve to 19-3, 3-1 Pac-12 on the season.

Ruby Meylan got the start for the Huskies and tossed her seventh complete game this season. She struck out 10 with four walks and two earned runs. Meylan now has nine career games with 10 or more strikeouts, moving her into a tie for sixth all-time.

Washington's bats got going early. Avery Hobson recorded a one-out single and Jillian Celis brought her home with her 11th double of the season. A single by Alana Johnson put runners at the corners for Olivia Johnson who recorded the RBI single. Brooke Nelson followed with the fifth hit of the inning to drive in another run to make it 3-0 Huskies.

A leadoff walk to Celis in the third and an A. Johnson single let Kinsey Fielder sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. O. Johnson recorded the second straight sacrifice hit to bring the fourth run.

Arizona cut into the Washington lead with a run in the fourth.

Back-to-back home runs from Celis and A. Johnson extended the Huskies' lead to five at 6-1.

Giselle Alvarez came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and hit a single out to center to drive in a pair of runs. In the following at bats, Celis, A. Johnson and Fiedler recorded three-straight home runs. It is the first time since 2015 the Huskies have recorded such a feat.

Arizona scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to its final of 13-2.

Celis led the way with five RBI, the first time this season a Husky has recorded that. Alvarez, A. Johnson and O. Johnson had multiple RBIs.

The Huskies and Wildcats face off in game two of the series tomorrow. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. and airing on Pac-12 Washington and Pac-12 Arizona.
