SEATTLE – Sophomore Chloe Foerster announced herself as a mid-distance star in the making today, breaking the Washington School Record and the Husky Classic Meet Record in the mile with a blazing time of 4:28.14, and winning by more than three seconds against a loaded field. Foerster, a Portland native, dropped eight seconds off her previous mile PR, and went to No. 11 in NCAA history.
Foerster's stunner was accompanied by an extended School Record in the shot put by Kaia Tupu-South, and a potential NCAA qualifier in the pole vault from freshman Amanda Moll, as the major highlights on the final day of the Husky Classic inside the Dempsey.
Four School Records fell at the 2024 Husky Classic, with Foerster and Tupu-South's records added to Friday's records from Jayden White in the weight throw and Haley Herberg in the 5,000-meters.

Distance Events
Despite the ever-faster times continuing to spread throughout NCAA distance running, the UW women's mile School Record set by Katie Flood of 4:28.48 had stood since 2012, also set at the Husky Classic. Flood in that season anchored the UW DMR to the NCAA title, and she then won the 1,500-meter NCAA title outdoors. At the time it was the fourth-fastest mile in collegiate history.
No Husky since had gone sub-4:30 in the mile, but Foerster was on a mission today. The top heat of the mile went out quickly and despite the talent in the field, it was strung out with gaps forming just a couple laps into the race. Portland's Laura Pellicoro, a two-time NCAA mile qualifier, pushed the pace, with Foerster stalking her in second-place for much of the race. On the backstretch of the final lap, Foerster passed on Pellicoro's right, and began to build a lead. Down the homestretch she kept her form through the line and leaned across to earn herself the school record in 4:28.14. It's the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA this year in what is already shaping up to be the fastest field ever.
The Huskies also got solid mile times from Julia David-Smith in 4:42.56, and Tori Herman in 4:43.80.
In the top heat of the women's 800-meters, Wilma Nielsen and Marlena Preigh each chipped away at their season-best times, as they each look to earn NCAA bids. Nielsen was third in 2:02.89, and Preigh was fourth in 2:03.59. Sophie O'Sullivan also doubled back from running the 3k last night to run 2:07.24.
The men had just one miler in uniform today, as Eric Gibson posted a time of 4:06.07. Running unattached, freshman Thom Diamond went 4:02.22.
Throws
There was just one thrower in action for the Huskies today, but since that one thrower set a School Record, it was a pretty perfect day. Sophomore Kaia Tupu-South extended her own shot put record by a few inches, the second week in a row she has inched closer to a nationals bid. Today her best and winning throw traveled 56-feet, 4-inches, going two inches farther than her old record. The New Zealander is now tied for 13th in the NCAA this season.

Jumps
Washington went into the meet with three women positioned in the top-16 nationally in the pole vault: Hana Moll, Nastassja Campbell, and Sara Borton. All three took this week off, but UW still went 1-2 in the women's vault, with Amanda Moll soaring to a season's-best clearance of 14-4 that puts her up into the current top-16 as the fourth Dawg.
Moll had a third-attempt clearance at 14-0, before getting over 14-4 on her second try. That also puts her up to No. 6 in school history. In second-place, sophomore Sarah Ferguson made a season-best of 13-6 ¼, and took three tries at a potential PR of 14-0. Avril Wilson also made 12-6 ¼ and Delaney Ezeji-Okoye also got over that same height.

Prestin Artis continued his Dempsey long jump winning streak, which is now at seven-straight meets, or every one of his Husky career. He had a best today of 25-4 ½, passing his last two rounds. Roman Hutchinson was sixth overall at 21-11.
Sprints
Washington won both 4x400-meter relays to close out the Husky Classic. The women's group posted the sixth-fastest time in school history in the win, going 3:43.77. The team was made up of Danielle Hunter, Anna Terrell, Kapiolani Coleman, and Rhonda Newton.

The men's relay opened up a big lead on leg one and ran away with the win in a season-best time of 3:10.27. Jonathan Frazier opened, passing to Matthew Wilkinson, then Jonathan Birchman, and Daniel Gaik anchored.
Just a couple Husky sprinters were in action individually today. Junior Danielle Hunter placed sixth in the 60-meter dash final. She ran 7.59 in the final and 7.58 in the prelims, just .03 off her PR. Sophomore Sophia McHenry clocked 8.02, tying her PR. In the 400-meters, Elle Rutherford ran a personal-best of 59.64 seconds.
