UW Men's Rowing Joins Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
December 05, 2024 | Men's Rowing
The Washington men's rowing team is proud to announce that, effective immediately, the program will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
The Huskies will be joined by the men's rowing teams from California, Gonzaga, Oregon State, San Diego, Santa Clara, Stanford and UC San Diego in comprising the eight-team MPSF for men's rowing.
Since the UW moved to the Big Ten Conference at the start of the current school year, the men's rowing program had been working towards this result, as the Big Ten does not sponsor men's rowing. The MPSF, which sponsors a total of 15 sports for college programs from the western United States, will hold the inaugural MPSF Men's Rowing Championship next May 17-18, at Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., a frequent former host of the Pac-10 and Pac-12 Championships, as well as the venue for past IRA National Championship regattas.
"We are excited to announce that we will be joining the MPSF as our home conference," said UW men's head coach Michael Callahan, who is entering his 18th year as head coach at his alma mater. "The MPSF has had a storied history of hosting championships for more than 30 years. Keeping our traditional race schedule allows us to stay true to the history of West Coast rowing and the unique rivalries that make collegiate rowing special. We are grateful for the support of the administration at UW, as well as other West Coast schools, that have made this alignment possible. We are looking forward to Cal coming to the Montlake Cut on April 26 for The Dual."
The MPSF will sponsor a total of 15 men's and women's sports in 2024-25. Along with men's rowing, Washington also competes in the MPSF in beach volleyball.
