Ladine Tabbed for USBWA National Player Of The Week Honors
December 31, 2024 | Women's Basketball
SEATTLE – After a career 40-point performance on Saturday, Elle Ladine has been named U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Player of the Week.
Ladine joins Kara Dunn (Georgia Tech), Olivia Miles (Notre Dame), Kaylene Smikle (Maryland), and Juju Watkins (USC) as national players of the week.
This is Ladine's second USBWA award selection, as the San Francisco, Calif. native was tabbed USBWA National Freshman of the Week on Feb. 7, 2023, after helping lead the Huskies to a sweep over the Bay Area schools, including a win over then-No. 2 Stanford.
The last Husky to win USBWA National Player of the Week honors was Kelsey Plum in 2017 as a senior.
She was also named AP Women's Basketball Player of the Week honorable mention.
Ladine's 40 points in the Huskies' win over Northwestern was tied for the most points by a Big Ten player so far this season.
It was also the most by a Dawg since Amber Melgoza had 40 against Stanford in 2018. The junior became the fourth Husky to drop 40 in a game, joining Giuliana Mendiola, Melgoza, and Plum who did it five times in her career.
Ladine's previous career-high before Saturday was 24, and the guard had 26 by halftime.
She shot 60 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range, finishing the game 15-for-25 and 6-of-10 from three as she drained a career-high six triples. She also matched her career-high six assists, helping UW dish out a season-high 25 dimes.
