Osobor Lands On John R. Wooden Award Watchlist
November 07, 2024 | Men's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – Adding to a mantel stacked full of preseason honors, Washington big man Great Osobor tacked on another on Thursday, landing a spot on the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Watchlist.
The selection recognized Osobor as a candidate for not only the Wooden Award All-America Team but also the Most Oustanding Player of the Year Award. Earlier in the preseason, the England native was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team and the Karl Malone Award Power Forward of the Year Watchlist.
Osobor was also named a Preseason All-American by ESPN's Jay Bilas and CBS' Jon Rothstein, and was tabbed the No. 15 player in the nation by CBS.
While the 6-8 forward has just one game in Purple and Gold under his belt, the Montana State and Utah State transfer made a dynamic debut in Tuesday's season-opening win over UC Davis. In addition to scoring 15 points, Osobor pitched in career-highs with 17 rebounds and six steals.
Stuffing the box score, Osobor becoming the first major college basketball player to post that single-game stat line since Blake Griffin in 2008. It was also the first time in UW history that a player tallied at least 15 points, 15 rebounds and five steals in a game.
