Papatheodorou, Suliafu Reel In All-Big Ten Honors
November 01, 2024 | Women's Soccer
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference released All-Big Ten selections for women's soccer on Friday, with Washington's Ioanna Papatheodorou and Kolo Suliafu making the cut among the league's elite talent as voted on by the conference's coaches.
Papatheodorou was named All-Big Ten First Team at forward, earning her third all-conference nod after receiving All-America East plaudits twice at UMass Lowell. It is the first career all-conference nod for Suliafu, who was named an All-Big Ten Second Team defender.
A senior out of Greece, Papatheodorou leads the Huskies and ranks tied for seventh in the Big Ten with eight goals in 2024. Of those eight, four have been game-winners, including a dazzling free kick goal to life Washington to a 2-1 win over No. 5 Michigan State. Papatheodorou has also chipped in two assists for a team-high 18 points.
While the Greek international has provided UW's most potent punch on the offensive end, Suliafu has spearheaded a lockdown Dawg defense on the other side of the pitch. The Ontario, California, native has played every minute of the 2024 season, leading the Huskies to nine clean sheets. If the season ended today, Washington's nine goals conceded in 2024 would be the lowest in a single season in program history.
Additionally, junior Lucy Newlin was named Washington's representative for the Big Ten's Sportsmanship Award, recognizing a player that has distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior.
