Tournament Draws & Results
SEATTLE -- Coming off the program's first NCAA Championship appearance, the Husky beach volleyball team gets back in the sand this week at the AVCA Spokane Qualifier. The pairs tournament is the first of several such pairs competitions on UW's fall schedule.
This is the third year that fall action has been included in the NCAA beach volleyball calendar. The spring remains the focal point of team dual match play. The biggest event of the fall is the AVCA Pairs National Championship, held Nov. 15-17 in Huntsville, Alabama. This season there are multiple qualifying tournaments for teams to send pairs on to Huntsville.
Washington starts the fall with two bids already earned to the national pairs tourney, thanks to its NCAA team championship appearance last spring. The Huskies will try to earn additional spots in their first two fall tournaments, this weekend in Spokane, and next weekend in Manhattan Beach, Calif. (Oct. 18-20).
This weekend's tournament in Spokane is held at Browns Park in Spokane Valley, Wash. Matches begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and the tournament will be divided into a Bid Division, with 16 pairs playing for two bids to Huntsville, and an Open Division which will have 48 pairs.
In addition to the AVCA qualifiers and national championship, the Huskies also have the Surf City Collegiate Challenge at Huntington Beach, Calif. on the schedule from Oct. 26-27, plus the Grand Canyon Pairs Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. from Nov. 16-17.
