
Gymnastics To Host No. 2 California For Home Opener Saturday

SEATTLE – After improving in most individual events and team score from week one to week two, the Washington gymnastics meet will host the No. 2 California Bears on Saturday, Jan. 20 to open up the 2024 home season at Alaska Airlines Arena.
The meet will begin at 12 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks. Alisa Mowe and Jim Watson will be on the call.

Saturday's meet will represent the Purple Strong theme, which helps raise awareness for various causes near and dear to the GymDawgs' hearts.
The Huskies will host an autograph session after competition, so be sure to bring items for the GymDawgs to sign. This will be the only meet this year that the team will be available for an autograph session post-meet.
THE COMPETITION – NO. 2 CALIFORNIA
The second-ranked Bears are coming off a historic performance in the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad, where they faced No. 14 Michigan State, No. 18 BYU and North Carolina State.
Cal earned a 197.875 in the quad, the seventh-best team score in program history. The team also broke nine-year-old program record on vault, earning a team score of 49.525.
Sophomore eMjae Frazier earned a perfect 10 on beam and became the only gymnast in program history to have a perfect score on two different events (beam and floor).
The Huskies last faced Cal at the P&G Classic on March 3, 2023, where Washington came in third in a quad with the Bears, LSU and George Washington.
Washington has faced Cal a handful of times in program, with the last Husky win coming at home in the 2020 season when the GymDawgs earned a 197.225 to oust the No. 10 Bears.
LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies built on their team score drastically from week one to week two, earning a 196.250 last weekend at Iowa.
Washington also improved its scores on bars, beam and floor against Iowa, earning 49s on each of the three events for the first time this season.
The GymDawgs were led by all-arounder Skylar Killough-Wilhelm, who tied her career-high on beam with a team-high 9.925.
Taylor Russon set herself a new career-best on beam with a 9.875. Chelsea Hallinan put up a 9.850 or higher again in her second career appearance.
Emily Innes, who has competed vault, beam and floor so far this season, also earned a 9.850 on beam to go along with a 9.825 on floor against the Hawkeyes.
