August 15, 2023 | Football
Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has been tabbed to the preseason watch list for The Manning Award, the Allstate Sugar Bowl announced today.
Penix Jr., a senior from Tampa, Fla., finished the 2022 season as national leader in passing yards per game (357.0) and second in total passing yards to set the UW single-season record at 4,641. He finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting and was named a 2022 All-Pac-12 Second Team selection.
In addition, Penix Jr. has also been named to the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien and Walter Camp Award watch lists.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. The winner will again be selected by a voting panel, which includes national media and each of the Mannings, after the bowls.
