Huskies Add Two More to the Pack
June 29, 2023 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington men's basketball filled out its roster with the addition of two transfers, Head Coach Mike Hopkins announced on Thursday.
Nate Calmese, a 6'2" guard from Gilbert, Ariz., joins the Huskies after earning Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors last season at Lamar University. Calmese averaged 17.6 points per game in his first collegiate season, trailing only Alabama's Brandon Miller among freshmen scorers in Division I. He shot 48 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point distance.
"Nate is a highly efficient and proven scorer," said Hopkins. "He is a great worker who plays with a chip on his shoulder, which fits our culture well. One of the most exciting things about Nate is he has three years of eligibility left. He is a great addition to our program and we're excited to have him."
Wilhelm Breidenbach, a 6'10" junior from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., arrives on Montlake after two seasons at Nebraska. The forward played in all 32 games for the Huskers in 2022-23, reaching career-highs of 13 points and seven rebounds against Kansas State. Breidenbach earned Academic All-Big Ten honors and was also on the Nebraska Student-Athlete Honor Roll.
"We are thrilled to bring such a well-rounded student-athlete into our program," Hopkins said of Breidenbach. "Wilhelm's skill and toughness are a rare combination for someone his size. He will be a tremendous addition to our program on and off the court."
Calmese and Breidenbach join previously announced grad transfers Sahvir Wheeler, Anthony Holland and Moses Wood in the incoming class in addition to four-star recruit Wesley Yates headlining the freshmen class.
The Huskies welcome back the Pac-12's leading returning scorer Keion Brooks Jr. along with Braxton Meah, Franck Kepnang and Koren Johnson for 2023-24.
