UW Tied For 7th After Two Rounds At NCAA Auburn Regional

AUBURN, Ala. β Following the second round at the NCAA Auburn Regional, Washington remains in a tie for seventh place. The team is three strokes back of the fifth qualifying spot, holding their ground in the same position from yesterday.

The Huskies managed to keep their footing among the field, finishing round two in the middle of the pack yet close behind the other leaders.

"Another tough test today, we played nicely without being spectacular," said UW coach Alan Murray.

Petr Hruby led the way for Washington as their highest finisher after round two, tying for 12th place. Bo Peng finished tied for 30th overall and delivered a strong back nine which included an eagle on hole 13.

"We finished well, and it has kept us within striking distance," said Murray. "Good rounds from Petr and Bo."

Teddy Lin carded a solid second round at Auburn University Club, leaping 10 spots from yesterday's placement to finish the day in a tie for 16th.

Taehoon Song is tied for 48th among players, while freshman Joshua Koo's day was highlighted by three birdies as he ascended 12 spots on the individual leaderboard, currently claiming a tie for 59th place.

"Joshua was big for us," said Murray.

As was the case yesterday, the course offered its share of challenges as the players grappled with the long pars and increased winds Tuesday.

"The course is tough, and it is more scorable early, but when you get towards the back nine no matter what side you start on and the wind freshens, then it's a really good test," said Murray.

With one round yet to be played, the Huskies will look to continue their consistency without seeking to overplay the course.

"There are not that may birdies out there and it's all about being patient and churning out the pars will leave us in a great spot," Murray said.

Only one team is under par after two rounds at the Auburn Regional, emphasizing the difficulty of this course. The hosting Auburn Tigers, presently first among the contenders, are 1-under par through the first 36 holes of the tournament.

"It's all to play for tomorrow, lots of things can happen. There will be ups and downs for everyone but all we can do is focus on ourselves and do what we need to do to score well."

As the focus for the Dawgs shifts to the third and final day of the NCAA Auburn Regional, the opportunity for a top-five finish remains well within reach. With a trip to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale hanging in the balance, Washington will be prepared to make the most of round three.

"We will do a little short game work this afternoon and rest up for what's always a fun day," said Murray. "Going into the last round of a tournament with something on the line is why these guys practice and work so hard."
