Huskies Host Golden Bears

SEATTLE – No. 10 Washington hosts California for a three-game series beginning on Thursday. The Huskies sit at 26-8 on the season and 7-5 in Pac-12 play.

30 SEASONS OF WASHINGTON SOFTBALL
2023 marks the 30th season of Washington softball. The Huskies first year as a program was in 1993. Head coach Heather Tarr has been a part of 24 of 30 seasons in the Purple and Gold as a player, manager and coach.
 
MORE THAN A GAME
On Saturday, the UW Softball team will wear cleats made with kids from Children's Hospital. The Huskies visited Seattle Children's a couple weeks ago where the visited with kids and designed cleats with them. Saturday's game will mark the debut of the cleats.
 
THE LAST TIME OUT
Washington suffered their second series loss of the season down at Arizona State. The Huskies won the first game of the series 4-2, but fell in the final two games 3-1 and 5-2.
 
NOT ACTING LIKE FRESHMAN
The four freshmen have contributed a lot to the Husky program so far in 2023. Alana Johnson is fourth on the team with 19 RBI and third with seven home runs. Ruby Meylan is nationally ranked in shutouts (6) and strikeouts (137). Brooklyn Carter is a force on the base paths, leading the team and second in the conference with 20 stolen bases. Sydney Stewart has split time at catcher with a .378 average and six RBI.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
Cal sits at 24-9-1 on the season and 6-5-1 in conference play. The Golden Bears are receiving votes in the NFCA and USA Softball polls. Cal is coming off a series win over then-No. 24 Utah in Berkeley. Mika Lee is leading the team with a .351 average, while Makena Smith is the team leader in RBI (29) and home runs (11). Elon Butler is the reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after leading the Golden Bears with a .500 average, four hits, two homers and five RBI last weekend against Utah.
 
Washington leads the all-time series over Cal 53-45. The Huskies also hold the all-time record in Seattle 24-16.
 
UP NEXT
The Huskies will hit the road and travel to Oregon State. The three-game series is set to begin on Friday, April 14 and the games will air on the Oregon State Live Stream.
