SEATTLE – Washington Softball student-athletes wore T-shirts bearing the message End Hate. before the team's home series against Oregon.
The shirts were designed by fifth year outfielder Madison Huskey.
"In 2020 when George Floyd was murdered, it became very clear to me that this life that I live is so much more than sports," said Huskey. "I have decided to use my platform as an athlete on a very visible team to advocate for the things that I want to see in this world.
"My hope is that when this shirt is worn, it creates more opportunities for people to have courageous conversations around what hate is and how it shows up in society."
All proceeds from the shirts will be donated to the department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion within the University of Washington athletic department.
Huskey has a team-leading 11 home runs and 39 RBI this season and Washington is 31-9 overall, which includes Pac-12 series wins over Oregon, Arizona, Cal and Oregon State.
The ninth-ranked Huskies host No. 18 Utah this weekend in Seattle.
