Washington Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader Over Arizona

SEATTLE β No. 9 Washington earned a pair of wins over No. 18 Arizona on Saturday at Husky Softball Stadium. The Huskies improve to 24-6, 5-3 Pac-12 on the season.

Washington won game one of the series 3-1 after finishing the final four innings on Saturday. In game two, Madison Huskey hit the walk-off winner to secure the series win for the Huskies in a 4-3 victory.

GAME ONE: #18 ARIZONA 1, #9 WASHINGTON 3
Ruby Meylan tossed a one-hitter on the way to picking up her 11th win of the season in the 3-1 victory for the Huskies in game one of the series. Meylan also threw her seventh 10+ strikeout game of the season, striking out 10 Wildcats along the way.

The game, which started on Friday night but was halted due to rain, picked up on Saturday afternoon in the middle of the third in a scoreless contest. Both teams were without a hit when the game was postponed.

With two outs and a runner on in the fifth, Madison Huskey hit a double out to right center for the first run of the game. Sami Reynolds followed with a double of her own to bring around Huskey for the 2-0 advantage.
Arizona's Allie Skaggs brought the Wildcats within one after scoring from third on a wild pitch.

Kinsey Fiedler lead off the sixth with a single and stolen second to put a runner in scoring position for SilentRain Espinoza. Espinoza hit the Huskies' third double of the day to add an insurance run for the Dawgs.

Meylan retired the side in the seventh to secure Washington's 23rd win of the season.

Arizona came out swinging in the with three hits in the first, scoring the first run of the contest.

The Huskies tied it up on a solo home run from Sami Reynolds in the bottom half of the inning. Washington took the lead in the second on Alana Johnson's sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot to take a 3-1 lead.

The Wildcats tied the game in the third with a pair of runs.

In the top of the seventh, Arizona had bases loaded and two outs, but Kelley Lynch snagged a line drive to get out of the inning without a run coming across.

Madison Huskey smashed her ninth home run of the season for the walk-off winner at 4-3. It was Huskey's second walk-off winner of the season, also having one against Michigan State at the Grand Canyon Classic.

Lynch earned the win after tossing four scoreless innings, allowing only one hit with four strikeouts.

Up next, the Huskies and Wildcats conclude the series on Sunday at Husky Softball Stadium. First pitch is set for noon and airing on Pac-12 Arizona.
