Washington Aims for Season Split with USC Saturday
February 03, 2023 | Men's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – Washington (13-11, 5-8 Pac-12) seeks a Los Angeles split as the Huskies play at USC on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Alex Faust and Casey Jacobsen calling the game on FS1 and Tony Castricone and Jason Hamilton on the call on the Husky Sports Network, and locally on Sports Radio KJR-AM 950.
The Matchup
This is the 166th meeting between Washington and USC. The Trojans have won six straight after an 80-67 victory in December in Seattle. Keion Brooks Jr. led the team with 23 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in the previous matchup. The Huskies have not won at the Galen Center since 2017, an arena in which they have just two wins in ten years.
Last Time Out
Washington fought back in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field, but fell to No. 9 UCLA 70-61 on Thursday night. Keion Brooks Jr. led all scorers with 11 first-half points on 5-of-8 shooting. He finished with 23 points to lead the team in scoring for the sixth-straight game. The Huskies hit eight threes, marking the ninth consecutive game they hit 7+ threes - their longest single-season streak in team history. Game Recap
League Leaders
Washington leads the Pac-12 and ranks seventh in the NCAA in blocks per game (5.7). Three Huskies lead the league in offensive statistics. Braxton Meah is first in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage (68.8%); Cole Bajema leads the league in free throw percentage (88.1%) and Brooks ranks second in scoring (18.1ppg).
Milestones
Jamal Bey passed Darnell Gant for most games played in a Husky uniform when he checked into his 141st game last Saturday. Keion Brooks Jr. scored his 1,000th career point with a first-half three against ASU. Noah Williams needs 2 points to reach that mark.
Signing Day
Four-star recruit Wesley Yates III (Beaumont, Texas/Beaumont United) signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 16, announcing his commitment to Washington. Yates is the 37th-ranked prospect on ESPN's Top-100. The signing continues the momentum built from last year's class, which includes the No. 1 rated player in the state of Washington, Tyler Linhardt (Seattle, Wash./King's HS) and guard Keyon Menifield Jr. (Mount Morris, Mich./Phoenix [Ariz.] Prep).
Up Next
The Huskies play the first of two Boeing Apple Cup Series matchups against rival Washington State. The game is set for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Pullman.
