Husky Road Trip Continues In Texas, At McNeese

SEATTLE – The No. 12 Washington Huskies look to keep their momentum going this weekend at the Houston Classic. Over the three days, the Huskies will take on Hofstra, Houston and Morgan State at Cougar Stadium.
Following the Houston Classic, Washington makes the drive to Lake Charles, La. for a midweek contest at McNeese on Monday morning. View the entire weekend schedule below.
The Huskies opened the season at the Mark Campbell Invitational. Washington went 4-1 on the weekend with wins over #16 Duke, San Jose State, Liberty and LMU. The lone loss came against No. 1 Oklahoma with the final score of 5-4. Twelve of the 14 Huskies with an at-bat last weekend recorded a hit, led by Sami Reynolds with six hits in 13 at-bats.

30 SEASONS OF WASHINGTON SOFTBALL
2023 marks the 30th season of Washington softball. The Huskies first year as a program was in 1993. Head coach Heather Tarr has been a part of 24 of 30 seasons in the Purple and Gold as a player, manager and coach.
OFF TO A HOT START
Freshman pitcher Ruby Meylan made an immediate impact for the Huskies following opening weekend. Meylan tossed 14 scoreless innings with a record of 2-0 and a save. She also became the first Husky freshman since Gabbie Plain in 2018 to record a shutout and the first since 2020 to record 10+ strikeouts in a game. Meylan was named D1Softball Freshman of the Week for her performance.
HOMECOMING WEEK
The Houston area is home to senior Baylee Klingler and sophomore Olivia Johnson. Klingler attended Dickinson High School, while Johnson is from just outside of Houston in Pearland where she attended Dawson.
ALL-TIME VS. HOFSTRA
The Huskies and Pride have met four times previously. Washington leads the series 4-0. The last meeting came on Feb. 17, 2007 with the Huskies winning 8-1 in Tampa, Fla.
ALL-TIME VS. HOUSTON
Houston leads the all-time series between the two programs, 3-1. The Huskies and Cougars met twice during the 2022 season at the UNLV Tournament. Houston took the first game 5-4 in extra innings, but UW turned around the next day and won 10-4.
ALL-TIME VS. MORGAN STATE
The weekend matchup with Morgan State marks the first meeting between the two programs.
ALL-TIME VS. MCNEESE
The Huskies and Cowgirls have met once prior on Feb. 15, 1997. In the lone meeting in Tempe, Ariz., the Huskies came away with a 5-0 victory.
