Women’s Tennis Releases 2024 Schedule

SEATTLE – Washington women's tennis has announced their 2024 match schedule, which will kick off on Saturday, Jan. 13 against Eastern Washington at Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Dawgs will host just one match, Eastern Washington, before jetting off to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete with Memphis and Hawai'i on Jan. 19 and 20.
Following up a 2023 season that was highlighted by an 18-9 final record and a 6-4 conference finish, the Huskies are looking to come out with a bang in the Pac-12's final season.
Washington wrapped up conference play last season with a run to the semis (loss to Stanford) after defeating UCLA in the quarterfinals.
The Dawgs are home for the first month of the regular season, hosting Gonzaga on Jan. 27, Boise State on Feb. 2 and Baylor on Feb. 4.
Washington will host the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the second straight year -- and third time in program history -- Feb. 9-12 at Nordstrom Tennis Center and Seattle Tennis Club.
UW will welcome 15 of the top teams in the country to fight for the indoor national title.
Following ITAs, the Huskies will take on non-conference opponents Seattle U, Portland, San Diego State, Illinois and Ohio State before beginning Pac-12 action.
Pac-12 Championships will take place April 24-28 in Ojai, Calif.
Head coach Robin Stephenson brought on three new Dawgs this year in freshmen Catherine Gagnon and Alexia Jacobs, and grad transfer Dariya Detkovskaya.
Gagnon, from Quebec, Canada, and Jacobs, from Calgary, Canada, help even out a upperclassmen-heavy Washington squad.
Detkovskaya, originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan, adds a wealth of experience, after finishing a year at San Diego State and three seasons at Oklahoma State.
Among Washington returners are seniors Sarah-Maude Fortin, Yolanda Lin, Astrid Olsen and Melissa Sakar, along with sophomores Erika Matsuda and Zehra Suko, all of whom made significant impacts on Husky success last season.
Washington also welcomed two new assistant coaches in the offseason in Dani Melendez and Jennifer Kerr.
Melendez spent the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach at Harvard University. During her time in Cambridge, she helped the team to a season-best No. 60 NCAA ranking – the highest team ranking since 2017.
Before that, Melendez served as a volunteer assistant coach at Baylor from 2020-22. The team peaked at a No. 7 ranking during the 2021 season, when Melendez also helped lead the team to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Kerr is entering her first season as a coach for the Huskies after playing one year for Washington during the 2022-23 season and earning 2023 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Kerr spent four seasons at Columbia, where she was an All-Ivy League First Team player for the Lions.
