
Washington Opens NCAA Tournament With Sweep

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 22 Washington women's tennis advances to the Round of 32 for the second consecutive season following a 4-0 win over Liberty on Saturday morning at Boar's Head Resort.
The win is the 20th for Washington this season. It is the first back-to-back 20-win seasons since 1980 and 1981. UW had 21 victories last season.
The Dawgs opened the match with a pair of decisive wins in doubles. Erika Matsuda and Karolina Kozakova were the first to finish at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0 victory. Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim followed closely behind with a 6-1 victory of their own. It is the 21st doubles point won by the Huskies in their 25 matches.
UW kept the momentum going into singles with three straight set wins on Courts 4, 5 and 6.
Weissheim put the second Husky point on the board with her 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 5 spot. She improves to 15-3 on the dual season.
Jermine Sherif put the Dawgs within a point of the match win with a 6-2, 6-2 win on Court 4.
Kozakova clinched the sweep with her 6-2, 6-1 win on Court 6.
