Washington falls short against Utah
January 21, 2023 | Men's Basketball
SALT LAKE CITY -- Washington (12-9, 4-6 Pac-12) couldn't overcome the Utah Utes (14-7, 7-3), and were defeated 86-61. Keion Brooks Jr. led the Huskies with 17 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
"We never seemed to be able to get things going," said Coach Mike Hopkins. "From the start of the game, even the slightly contested layups that we normally finish weren't falling."
Midway through the first half, Hopkins went to the bench and Washington brought Utah's lead down to eight points. The comeback was highlighted by a Langston Wilson putback dunk that silenced the crowd. This was as close as the score would get.
"At that point in the game were looking for energy and that's what Langston gave us," said Hopkins. "But we just couldn't get in a rhythm."
Cole Bajema added 13 points, sinking three 3-pointers, and Noah Williams scored 10 points. Utah's Branden Carlson finished with 25 points and Rollie Worster fell one rebound shy of a triple-double (11 points, nine rebounds, 10 assists).
