No. 2 Huskies Shutout SDSU In Pac-12 Opener

SAN DIEGO – The No. 2 Washington Huskies recorded their fourth clean sheet on the way to the 2-0 victory at San Diego State on Thursday night.
Washington improves to 8-0-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in conference action.
Dating back to last season, the Huskies are on a 12-match unbeaten streak, setting a new program record. During that stretch, Washington is 11-0-1.
The Huskies got on the board in the 34th minute off the corner kick by Nick Scardina. Gio Miglietti took the shot, but it was saved by the San Diego State goalkeeper. Omar Grey followed through and sent the ball to the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Lucas Meek was awarded a penalty kick in the 42nd minute. Meek converted the goal – his seventh of the year – for the 2-0 advantage.
Washington was held to just two shots in the second half while San Diego State had 10, but Sam Fowler and the UW defense were able to keep the Aztecs off the board.
Fowler recorded his third shutout of the season, notching three saves in the contest.
The Dawgs continue the opening weekend of conference play when they head to No. 21 UCLA on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff from Los Angeles is set for 4 p.m. and airing on Pac-12 Network.
