Plain Nominated For NCAA Woman Of The Year

SEATTLE – Washington softball's Gabbie Plain has been named one of UW's nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year, as announced by the NCAA on Thursday.
Established in 1991, the award recognizes female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers. The Woman of the Year award highlights four pillars: academics, athletics, service and leadership.
Plain was one of 577 nominees from member schools, 248 which were Division I. Vanessa Wong from tennis was also named a nominee. School nominees will now go to the conference level, with each conference selecting one or two members to nominate, which will be announced in mid-August.
Plain graduated with a double majoring in psychology and anthropology with double minors in diversity and education, learning & society. The fifth-year senior has earned Pac-12 academic honors the last four seasons, named a NFCA Scholar-Athlete twice, honored as a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-America and named Pac-12 softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2022. She was also named a recipient of the Pac-12 Tom Hansen Medal.
On the field, Plain became the second in program history to earn four All-American honors in her career. In addition, Plain became the fourth Husky in program history to notch 100 career wins and the second Husky with 1,000 career strikeouts. Over her five season, Plain posts a 1.53 career ERA with 106 wins in 815 innings pitched which all rank in the Top 10 in program history. She was also a member of the Australian National Team during the 2020 Olympic Games.
