Washington Drops First of the Season to No. 15 Clemson

CLEARWATER, Florida – No. 6 Washington dropped its first game of the season, losing the finale of the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational 0-2 against No. 15 Clemson. Kelley Lynch had two hits for the Dawgs, while Gabbie Plain struck out seven Tigers. The Huskies finish the weekend at 4-1, and are currently 9-1 on the young season.
After going down 0-1 in the second inning, Washington had plenty of chances to counter. In the sixth inning, Baylee Klingler reached on a Clemson error, and pinch hitter Lily Agan walked to put runners on first and second. Madi Huskey reached on a fielder's choice, while Klingler was out at third. Megan Vandegrift hit a hard driven ball to third base, and was narrowly called out at first to end the inning.
CLEMSON SCORING
2nd: Clemson got on the board first, scoring one in the second and collecting four hits in the inning.
6th: Clemson hit the first home run of the season against Gabbie Plain.

Kelley Lynch led the Dawgs, going 2-for-3.
Kinsey Fiedler stole her third base of the season. Madi Huskey stole her first base of the season.
Clemson's run in the second inning was the first run scored against Gabbie Plain this year. The senior struck out seven, and is now one strikeout away from being No. 2 on the Husky all-time strikeout list.
