UW Sweeps Eastern For 3-0 Start

CHENEY, Wash. β In its first road match of the season, the Husky men's tennis team crossed the Cascades and descended upon Cheney, Wash. and is heading back with a 7-0 win over the Eagles of Eastern Washington. Washington improved to 3-0 with the sweep, its first 3-0 start since the 2017 season.

Originally scheduled to host Oregon today, the Dawgs adjusted on the fly and were able to get a match in when the Ducks had to postpone the match due to Covid-19 protocols.

"We were able to get a match in which is what we want, we're just eager to play," said Head Coach Matt Anger. "Today was also a good opportunity to get some guys in the lineup and everyone contributed well."

Junior Nikit Reddy got his first start, and victory, of the season today, and senior Jack Pulliam had his first dual win of the young season as well. Reddy was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 6 singles over Drew Dillon, and Pulliam defeated Brady Thomas at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3.

Freshman Nedim Suko moved up to the No. 3 singles spot today and clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Steven Paz.

Ewen Lumsden took the top singles spot for the Dawgs and was the first to finish his match, 6-1, 6-2, over Wout Doumen. Jack Davis had a 6-4, 6-4 win to go to 3-0 at No. 2 singles, and freshman Rikuto Yamaguchi also went to 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Erik Sarlvik.

UW also swept the doubles point. Davis and Han-Chih Lin had a 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot. Lumsden and Yamaguchi were 6-4 winners at No. 2, and Pulliam and Suko earned a 6-1 win at third doubles.

Washington will have a rematch this coming Tuesday against Seattle U. back at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
