January 12, 2022 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE -- Six members of the Washington men's soccer team saw their professional soccer dreams come to fruition on Tuesday afternoon.
In the morning, it was announced that Dylan Teves signed a Homegrown Player contract with the Seattle Sounders.
At noon, the 2022 MLS SuperDraft got underway, featuring three rounds of Major League Soccer teams drafting the top collegiate players in the country.
The first Husky player picked was defender Ryan Sailor at No. 9 overall by Inter Miami FC. It was the second straight draft where a Washington player was selected in the top-10, after Ethan Bartlow went No. 6 to the Housotn Dynamo is 2021.
Two picks later, Chicago Fire FC selected defender Kendall Burks with the 11th overall pick. With that selection, UW became the only school to have multiple players selected in the top-11 in both the 2021 and 2022 SuperDrafts, with Bartlow and Freddie Kleemann (11th overall) representing in the Huskies in 2021.
The second run saw a big-time run of Washington players, with three players being selected across an 11-pick span.
With the 5th pick in the second round, the Fire added their second Husky of the day in Charlie Ostrem. Four picks later, Inter Miami FC selected Lucas Meek to join up with Sailor in south Florida. Finally, the hometown Seattle Sounders picked Achille Robin with the 15th pick of the second round.
Washington set a record with five draft picks, beating the school's previous high of three, last done in 2015.
