OT Goal Fells Huskies At Stanford
April 17, 2021 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE – The #6 Washington Huskies fell 1-0 in overtime to the #8 Stanford Cardinal in the final game of the regular season. The Huskies fall to 10-2-0 with the loss and 7-3-0 in Pac-12 play, finishing the season second in the conference standings.
This was the fourth overtime game between Stanford and Washington in their last nine meetings. Only one of the last 12 meetings between these two teams was not a one-goal game or tie. The Huskies and Cardinal split the season series for the second year in a row.
A last-second corner kick to end the first half turned out to be one of Washington's most dangerous chances. Dylan Teves rushed to get the ball in and sent a great one into the middle of the box, where two Husky shots were blocked by Stanford bodies before the horn sounded on a scoreless half.
The Huskies were only credit with five shots, but had numerous chances in the game, with set piece after set piece finding dangerous areas in the box but no Husky able to get that last touch needed to push it home.
