SEATTLE - Washington Beach Volleyball gets to compete in the sands of Seattle for the first time in over two years this weekend, making up for lost time with a total of seven matches over three days at Alki Beach this Friday through Sunday, Apr. 16-18. The first two days will make up one tournament, the Husky Invitational, featuring UW, 15th-ranked Hawaii, Oregon, and Portland. Then Sunday will be three more dual matches separate from the tourney, with UW, Hawaii and 9th-ranked Arizona all playing each other once.
It's the first home matches for UW since March of 2019. It's also the last week of the regular season as the Pac-12 Championships are next up for the Dawgs starting on April 29. The Dawgs will play three times on Friday, starting with Portland at 11 a.m., then taking on Oregon at 1:30 p.m., and ending with Hawaii at 5:15 p.m. Match times for Saturday will be based on Friday's results.
Washington comes in at 1-7 but has competed well against several ranked opponents, with 3-2 losses against currently ranked teams in California and Arizona State. Leading the way has been Shayne McPherson and Chloe Loreen, who are 5-3 in dual play at the top of the Husky lineup.
15th-ranked Hawaii has an 8-7 record, with eight of those matches coming against No. 6 Cal Poly and No. 18 Long Beach State. Hawaii played four matches against LBSU, and went 2-2, with all four being 3-2 finals. The Rainbow Wahine are 1-3 against Cal Poly, but won the last match, 5-0. Hawaii also had 4-1 losses against Stanford and California.
The Huskies are familiar with Portland and Oregon from competing against them at Corban University in Salem. Portland has played just one dual match, a 3-2 win over Corban. The Ducks are 4-6 this season, defeating Portland by a 4-1 score on Tuesday, Apr. 13. Oregon's other three dual wins also all came against Corban.
Arizona has posted a 16-4 record thus far, and defeated the Huskies by a 4-1 score last week in Phoenix, with UW getting the win at the No. 1 spot. The Wildcats had wins last week over ranked Stanford and Cal teams and also has a big win over then-No. 8 Pepperdine.
