Klingler Walks It Off In Rain-Riddled Win

SEATTLE – The #6 Washington Huskies took the series with a 4-2 win over the #7 Arizona Wildcats in a two-day game. Baylee Klingler hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for the walkoff win in a game the Huskies never trailed.

The Huskies have now won every home series against Arizona since 2012 and three straight, sweeping Arizona in 2018, 2019, and 2021. Washington is 22-2 overall and 2-0 in Pac-12 play.

Washington led 2-1 in the sixth inning Saturday, only for rain to halt the game until Sunday. The delay would last 19 hours and 30 minutes before the teams got back on the field and the Huskies won it on Klingler's homer.

The Huskies struck early to take a 2-0 lead on Morganne Flores's third-inning double, one of Flores' two hits in the game. Washington's one through four hitters on Sis Bates, Klingler, Sami Reynolds, and Flores all had hits, with Flores the only one to not score a run.

Gabbie Plain had her fifth straight start with 10+ strikeouts, allowing only one earned run in the complete-game win. Plain was firing strikes all day long: she had first-pitch strikes to 11 of the first 13 batters she faced. In all, Plain would throw 24 first-pitch strikes on the day. Plain is now 13-0 on the year, the longest undefeated start to a year by a Husky since Kaitlin Inglesby started 16-0 in 2012.

		SCORING
Third Inning: With two on and two out, Flores ripped a double down the leftfield line that hit high off the wall and rebounded toward the infield. That allowed two Huskies to come home and break the scoreless tie. Sixth Inning: Arizona eeked out a run on a misplayed grounder, with the runner coming all the way around from second as the ball bounced away from the fielders to make it 2-1. Seventh Inning: After Arizona tied the game in the top half, Klingler put an exciting end to it with a blast that fought the wind and went out to right-center for the 4-2 win.

		NOTES
Klingler (2x3, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) has multiple hits in seven of the last eight games. Klingler has three doubles and a home run in the last four games. Flores (2x2, 2B, 2 RBI) has driven in runs in four straight games, with three doubles and eight RBI in that span. Bates (1x3, R, BB) has not had back-to-back hitless games since March of 2019, a span of 74 games. Bates passed Michelle Church for fifth in Washington history in hits. Reynolds (1x3, R) is now on a five-game hitting streak, hitting .500 in that time. Plain (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 10 K) is now tied with Eve Gaw for ninth in Washington history in wins.

Washington will start its first Pac-12 road series next weekend, facing off with Arizona State beginning March 26.
