Huskies Finish Undefeated Week With 5-2 Win
March 14, 2021 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #8 Washington Huskies finished off an undefeated weekend with a 5-2 win over the Portland State Vikings on a rainy Sunday. Washington scored three runs in the first, holding the lead all game long.
This was the final non-conference game of the year for Washington. The Huskies will enter Pac-12 play with a 20-2 record and a ten-game win streak.
The Huskies waited for pitches to hit all game long, drawing seven walks in the game. Nine times the Huskies worked their way to three-ball counts. Meanwhile, Washington's pitchers did not allow a walk in the game.
It was a team affair offensively, with all five runs scored by different players and four Huskies recording RBI. Morganne Flores was the only Husky with multiple RBI, driving in two on a first-inning double. Jenn Cummings hit her first-ever collegiate home run.
Pat Moore started the game, retiring the first seven batters she faced. Moore would throw three innings while Brooke Nelson came in for the final four. Nelson allowed back-to-back doubles in the fifth, then retired the next nine batters she faced to close out the game.
Washington hosts Arizona in the start of Pac-12 play next, with game one of that four-game series set for Friday, March 19 at 6:00 pm on ESPNU.
