March 12, 2021 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #8 Washington Huskies won 5-0 over Seattle U in their first home game since the 2019 Super Regionals, a span of 22 months. Seattle U's second batter of the game singled: the Redhawks wouldn't have another baserunner until one out in the seventh inning.
Washington moves to 17-2 with the win. This was Washington's ninth shutout of the season. Washington remains undefeated in the all-time series against Seattle U, with a record of 16-0.
Sis Bates set the Washington program record for career triples tonight with her 17th, breaking a tie with Ashley Charters and Becky Newbry. Baylee Klingler had a perfect 3-for-3 day, driving in two runs. Megan Vandegrift came off the bench and scored two runs, ripping a single in her only at-bat.
Gabbie Plain retired 18 straight at one point during another impressive performance from the two-time All-American. She struck out the side twice and ended the day with 12 strikeouts in all. Plain did not allow a single batter to reach a three-ball count in the game. Only six batters had two-ball counts against Plain.
Plain moves to 10-0 on the season with the win, the best start of her career. This was also her 27th shutout, tying her with Eve Gaw and Ashley Boek for fourth in Husky history.
Washington will play two games tomorrow, facing off with Portland State at 1:00 pm and Seattle U at approximately 3:00 pm, or 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one. That game will be streamed live on the Washington live stream.
