February 28, 2021 | Softball
SAN DIEGO โ A constant drip of offense exploded late for the #5 Washington Huskies, who defeated the San Diego Toreros 12-0 to finish a doubleheader sweep. Washington scored in each of the first four innings before a seven-run sixth put the game away.
This was Washington's fourth double-digit scoring effort this season. Washington has seven shutouts in its 15 games so far in 2021.
Five Huskies had multiple hits in the game, led by Morganne Flores and Kaija Gibson, who combined to go 6-for-8 with five RBI. Nine different Huskies scored a run in the game and ten had hits. Gibson, Sis Bates, and Kelley Lynch all scored multiple runs.
In the circle, Gabbie Plain kept her hot streak going. The senior allowed only one hit all game long, a single in the fifth. Her streak of five consecutive starts with double-digit strikeouts came to a close: Plain struck out seven batters in her five innings of work. Brooke Nelson would pitch a scoreless sixth.
