Huskies Breeze To Victory At Oregon
October 31, 2021 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE, Ore. – The Huskies scored three goals on their way to defeating Oregon on Sunday afternoon at Pape Field. The Huskies (6-7-4, 4-3-3) scored early and never looked back, cruising to a 3-1 victory over the Ducks (9-4-5, 4-4-2).
The victory was the second straight for UW, both coming in the team's final road trip of the regular season. The Huskies beat Oregon State 2-1 on Thursday, as the Huskies continue their push toward postseason play.
In the match, Olivia Van der Jagt set the mark for most games played in program history, playing in her 87th contest, passing Kate Deines. Goalkeeper Olivia Sekany was called on several times to defend goal, recorded eight saves in the match, the second most of the season.
The Huskies started strong out of the gates when Jessika Cowart opened the scoring early in the 4th minute off an assist from Helena Reischling and Karlee Stueckle. The goal was Cowart's third of the season.
UW doubled their lead ten minutes later when Kyla Ferry found the back of the net after Olivia Van der Jagt played a deep ball in the box. Ferry's goal was her second as a Husky, both coming in the last three matches.
Summer Yates sealed the deal early in the second half as she scored with her left foot off a cross from Stueckle, who had her second assist of the day. Yates' goal was her fifth of the season and the 20th of her career. It was also her 56th career point, which is eighth in program history.
The Ducks were able to score late in the 74th minute, but the result wouldn't change as the Husky defense stood strong in the final 15 minutes of play.
Ferry was again a major factor up top as she had three shots, all of which were on target. Stueckle, Kala McDaniel and Ruby Hellstrom also had two shots on the day.
The Huskies return home for their final match of the regular season on Friday, versus Washington State at 6:00 p.m.
