March 10, 2020 | Women's Golf
FAIRFAX, Calif. – Washington ended the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Invitational in third place with a team score of 17-over 881 (290-299-292). Rino Sasaki was the top finisher for the Huskies, ending her round at 1-over 73 and in a tie for 13th place.
Sasaki climbed four spots from her starting position at 17th place at the beginning of the tournament. The junior was extremely consistent in the third round, with only two bogeys and one birdie on the day and finished with a score of 5-over 221 (74-74-73).
We played a little more consistently today," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "Our team got better this week and we saw an improvement."
Despite missing part of the first round yesterday due to injury Brittany Kwon had the best round for the Huskies today. The freshman was able to fire a birdie in on the back nine to get even, and she finished right on par.
"I'm really proud of Brittany for hanging tough," said Mulflur. "She had to get through some adversity these last few days and she did a great job."
Karen Miyamoto finished second overall for the Huskies in a tie for 18th and a score of 7-over 223 (73-77-73). She bounced back after a rough second round and sunk a birdie on the second to last hole of her round to get 1-over par.
Alice Duan finished her third round at 2-over 74, putting her total score at 9-over 225 (68-83-74). The senior caught fire early in her round, starting her first three holes with a par, birdie, and an eagle, but she couldn't maintain the momentum. The senior finished tied for 29th place.
Martha Lewis carded an 8-over 80 in her final round of play, finishing in a tie for 43rd at 13-over at 13-over 229 (75-74-80).
"We still have some areas to improve on," said Mulflur. "But we are excited to get back to work after finals and continue to get better."
The Huskies are back in action on March 23 in the Maui Invitational, taking place in Kapalua, Hawaii.
