The Washington baseball team rode a strong outing from starting pitcher Stevie Emanuels en route to defeating visiting UC Irvine, 5-1, in Friday's home opener at Husky Ballpark.
Husky track & field athletes qualified for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships from two angles on Friday, with two earning qualifying marks at the BU Last Chance Meet while a third did so at the MPSF Championships.
The UW beach volleyball team embarked on its seventh season yesterday, opening the year with a 5-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin before coming up short against 13th-ranked Arizona in a 4-1 decision.
Husky softball split a pair of games on the first day of the Judi Garman Classic, upending No. 4 LSU, 3-1, before falling to third-ranked Texas, 8-6.
Amber Melgoza scored 34 points—one shy of her season-high—but the Washington women's basketball team was unable to pull of its second consecutive upset as No. 17 Oregon State pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 75-61 win at Gill Coliseum on Friday night.
Jaden McDaniels led the Husky men's basketball team with 19 points while Nahziah Carter added 14 points, but it was not enough as Washington State edged the UW, 78-74, on Friday night in Alaska Airlines Arena.
UW men's tennis opened Pac-12 play against No. 22 UCLA on Friday, falling to the Bruins, 5-0, in the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
