Washington's 2026 nominees include:
Under the banner of "UW Soccer Captures National Attention" the Husky soccer teams are jointly up for Sports Story of the Year. The women's team inspired a nation with its resilience in the face of the tragic passing of beloved goalie Mia Hamant after her courageous battle with cancer. The women won the Big Ten regular season title and then also captured the Big Ten tournament title three days after Hamant's passing. Wearing orange to promote cancer awareness, they then equaled the best NCAA finish in school history with an Elite Eight run, including an upset over top-seeded Virginia.
The men's team then put together an historic tournament run for the ages, winning six consecutive matches away from home to bring home the program's first NCAA Championship, defeating NC State in a dramatic 3-2 overtime finish in the title match, in front of a partisan Wolfpack crowd in Cary, North Carolina. UW entered the tournament unseeded and had to win on the home pitches of Oregon State, SMU, Stanford, and Maryland just to reach the College Cup, where they bested Furman and NC State to cap off the remarkable run that covered 10,000 miles in 21 days.
Richie Aman played a crucial role in Washington's incredible NCAA Tournament run and has been nominated for the Men's Sports Star of the Year category for his part. The midfielder earned recognition as one of three finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy while tallying 14 assists, including one in the national championship match. Aman saved the tournament run for the Huskies in the first round, scoring an outrageously tight-angled goal to secure a sudden death victory over Oregon State. The Hanover, N.H. native was lauded as the National Scholar Player of the Year, the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, and a First Team All-American.
Nathan Green kept Seattle's Mile City crown by winning his second career NCAA Championship in the 1,500-meters, and making it four-straight wins in the event for the Husky milers under Head Coach Andy Powell. Green was named the Big Ten Men's Track Athlete of the Year to cap off a senior season that also saw him anchor the first two Penn Relay Championships in Husky men's program history (DMR and 4xMile) and break the Washington mile School Record with a blazing time of 3:50.74.
Amanda and Hana Moll can be tough to tell apart as identical twins, and their dueling NCAA Championships and NCAA Records made it hard to separate them as Sports Star of the Year nominees, so they stand united on this year's ballot. Amanda Moll certainly put together the greatest season in collegiate history indoors in 2025, as she broke the NCAA record four times and became the first collegiate woman to clear 16-feet. She won the NCAA Indoor title while Hana finished second and went to No. 2 in NCAA Indoor history. Outdoors, Amanda broke the NCAA Record two more times but Hana came out on top at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and broke Amanda's record in the process. The two, still just sophomores, then finished 3rd and 4th at the U.S. Outdoor Championships and went on to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, where they fittingly tied for sixth-place.
