Second Walkoff Of Weekend As Dawgs Win 3-2
February 23, 2020 | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, Ca.Β β The #2 Washington Huskies finished out a perfect weekend with a 3-2 win over the #25 Northwestern Wildcats. Kelley Lynch hit her second walkoff home run of the weekend to win the game after Northwestern tied it 2-2 in the top of the seventh. Washington improves to 15-1 this year with the win.
It was a tight game throughout, with a 2-1 score holding from the second inning until the seventh, when Northwestern tied it. Washington trailed for just one inning in the game and had a number of clutch hits: the Dawgs hit .455 with two outs, allowing only one hit with two outs all game long.
Kelley Lynch, Pat Moore, and Gabbie Plain all saw action in the game. Lynch started in the circle, allowing only one hit in her 3.2 innings. She would strike out four in a row at one point. Moore through one scoreless inning, giving up one hit, her sixth scoreless appearance in nine total.
Plain finished the game with 2.1 innings of work, giving up one run. Plain struck out the last two batters she faced before Lynch's walkoff in the bottom half of the inning.
Morganne Flores and Taryn Atlee had the RBI for Washington, both coming in the second inning. Flores, SilentRain Espinoza, and Ari Quiñones managed multiple hits, with Espinoza recording the only extra-base hit of the day for Washington with her double.
Washington will head to the Judi Garman Classic next weekend.
