Molden Named Witten Award Semifinalist
November 17, 2020 | Football
Washington's Elijah Molden, who has earned numerous preseason accolades and been named to watch lists for a long list of awards this season, has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2020 Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award.
From the press release announcing the semifinalists: the award is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player's leadership, both on and off the field. Leadership is a term synonymous with Jason Witten, who, in addition to becoming one of the best tight ends in the history of the sport, has served as one of football's most prominent role models during his 16-year pro career. In addition to winning the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2012, Witten also received the Bart Starr Award, Pro Football Weekly's Humanitarian of the Year Award, Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP and the Bob Lilly Award, among many others. All of those honors have recognized his work in the community, achievements on the field and dedication to his teammates and family.
Molden, a senior defensive back from West Linn, Ore., is the leader of the Husky defense and entered the year as a preseason, first-team All-America selection. He was a 2019 Academic All-District 8 selection and, earlier this month, was named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which earned him an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship from the National Football Foundation.
He and the Huskies take on Arizona this coming Saturday night at Husky Stadium.
