SEATTLE --- The Washington men's tennis team put up an impressive battle in its first match against a nationally-ranked team this season, but could not crack No. 17 Michigan, falling 7-0 on Friday night at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Michigan (2-0) took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, though the match at No. 1 was a close 6-4 contest as Washington's Jack Davis and Ewen Lumsden hung with the No. 5-ranked doubles team in the DI. Kailuhia Lam and Jack Pulliam were in a tight battle at No. 3, trailing 6-5 with the lead in the game when the doubles point was cliched.
The Wolverines clinched the match quickly with three wins in singles. The match of the day came at No. 4 singles where newcomer Liam Puttergill took the first set 7-5, but lost the next two 6-3, 6-4.
Washington returns to action on Monday, hosting UC Santa Barbara at 12:00 pm at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Admission is always free with free pizza served between doubles and singles.
