Week 5 Soundbites: Chris Petersen Media Availability
September 26, 2019 | Football
SEATTLE – Washington football head coach Chris Petersen met with the media following the Huskies' practice Thursday morning ahead of Saturday's game against USC. Read some of what he had to say:
(On the challenge USC poses to Washington's secondary) "I think it's the biggest challenge for the team, in general. Certainly, with [USC's] wideouts and how they throw the ball, that's what they do. They are a pass-first offense that also does a great job in the run game. It's the biggest challenge [that position group] has had, and the biggest challenge a lot of our guys have had. It will be the biggest challenge our defensive line has had. We could just go across the board."
(On whether the crowd will make a difference Saturday) "I hope. I've had a handful of games here when you walk into that stadium and you're like, 'Whoa, this is good. This is different.' I'm really hoping this is one of those games. It should be. It's the kickoff time we want, the weather seems to be cooperating, and we have a really good opponent with two evenly matched teams. This is what college football is all about."
(On USC's defensive front four) "This is the best defensive line that we've seen, without question. California has good players, for sure, but just talent-wise, that's the strength of USC's defense. It's interesting that a true freshman is one of the guys who flashes and really shows up, and he does that.
(On whether the third quarter against BYU is indicative of playing better to start the second half) "I don't know, I really don't. Like I said, first quarter or third quarter, we're trying to play our best every quarter. There are good players on the other side and good coaches who can adjust. There are ebbs and flows of the game, and that's just how it is. That's what our guys have to be ready to do is weather the flows, whether it's right at the start if we don't normally start like we have been or the third quarter. It doesn't matter. We have to fight back."
