PULLMAN, Wash. – Senior Karen Miyamoto led the Huskies after 36 holes of the Dawgs 2019-20 season opening tournament on Monday as she is one stroke off the lead at the Cougar Cup. "It was a tough day out there, very cold with lots of rain and wind during the competition," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "Overall, we hung in there pretty well I felt like we hit some really good shots in those conditions. We just need to clean some things up in our short game tomorrow and go from there."
Miyamoto opened her season with a strong start going 3-under 69 over her first 18 holes in a round that featured three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 17th hole. She followed that with an additional four birdies to put her two-round score at 5-under 139, just one stroke off the individual lead.
Sophomore Martha Lewis was next on the leaderboard for the Huskies as she is tied for 19th at even-par 144 (74-70). Despite going two-over during her opening round, Lewis cleaned up over the second 18 as she came in at 2-under 70 thanks to her four birdies.
