GymDawgs Earn WCGA Academic Award
August 19, 2019 | Gymnastics
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Washington GymDawgs once again earned the WCGA academic award for excellence in the classroom, maintaining a team GPA over 3.5. Only one NCAA Tournament team in the country finished with a higher team GPA than Washington's 3.6786. Washington finished first among Pac-12 schools and first among "power five" conference schools.
11 individual GymDawgs earned Scholastic All-American status for their work in the classroom: Evanni Roberson, Brenna Brooks, Talia Brovedani, Michaela Nelson, Kristyn Hoffa, Monica Riley, Maya Washington, Hannah Vandenkolk, Malory Rose, Meaghan Ruttan, and Amara Cunningham. That is the most individual Scholastic All-Americans in Washington Gymnastics history.
Washington was one of only 17 teams in the country to finish with over 75% of its team individually earning GPAs of 3.5 or higher. Only Boise State, Western Michigan, and Alabama had higher percentages among Division I programs.
No other Pac-12 school finished with ten spots of Washington's seventh-place national finish in team GPA. With 79% of the team individually earning GPAs of 3.5 or higher, Washington finished six percentage points higher than any other Pac-12 school in that category.
For Hoffa, Nelson, Riley, Roberson, and Rose, this is the second consecutive Scholastic All-American award. All five of them also earned Scholastic All-American honors in 2018, when Washington again earned the academic award.
