UW in Second Heading Into Final Round of NCAA Regionals
May 07, 2019 | Women's Golf
CLE ELUM, Wash. —- The Washington women's golf team is in second place at 2-over par after shooting a 5-over 293 on Tuesday at Tumble Creek Club. The top six teams following Wednesday's final 18 holes will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 17-22 at The Blessings Golf Course in Fayetteville, Ark.
"It's a survive and advance mentality," said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. "It was really hard out there. We struggled early, but they hung in there and battled. We really played the backside fairly well. I'm proud of them, they didn't give up, they kept fighting. Nobody tried to do something they shouldn't have. They stayed the course and that's what you have to do. We're excited to get after it tomorrow."
Sophomore Rino Sasaki is tied for second place at 6-under after shooting a 2-under par round of 70. Sasaki rolled in four more birdies in her second round, giving her 10 over two days of play. She finished her round strong, recording three birdies in her final four holes. Sasaki is one stroke off of the lead heading into the final round of play. Sasaki continued her strong play on the par-4's, as she is -5 over two days of play.
Senior Sarah Rhee shot a 2-over round of 74. Rhee sits at 3-over for the tournament and tied for 22nd place.
Junior Alice Duan is tied for 29th place after posting a round of 74 on Tueday. Duan is in 29th place after moving up nine spots on the leaderboard in the second round.

Washington will tee off the final round of play beginning at 10:20 a.m. playing with USC and San Jose State.
